Mythology Adjacent
You are probably already familiar with this genre thanks to the popularity of Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson books, movies and television series. This genre takes the ancient gods, monsters, and magic and drops them in the modern world. Imagine Zeus using a cell phone, or thor ordering coffee in a Starbucks, and you have a good idea where this genre will take you. Mythology adjacent novels allow the reader to envision a world where the magic is hiding just beneath the surface, while making the ancient stories seem more immediate and relevant. My list below starts with one of my favorite series by Kevin Hearne. His protagonist, Atticus, is a 2,000 year old Celtic druid hiding out in Arizona from the ancient gods. Throughout this series, you'll encounter gods and goddesses from pantheons all over the world.

Iron Druid Series
Kevin Hearne

A 2,000-year-old druid hides out as the owner of a occult book store in Arizona. He has a talking dog and a vampire lawyer to help him fend off the angry Irish gods hunting him down. I love the characters and the irreverent sense of humor of this series.
Throughout the series, you'll be introduced to deities from many other pantheons all over the world. One of the most enjoyable series I've ever read!
